Nightsky on Kèthîra

An online tool developed by Michael Jung The form below is provided to assist Gamemasters and players to see what the "night sky" above any point in Kèthîra looks like at any given point, on any specified day and time of the year. To use the form enter the geographical coordinates on Kèthîra, the date and time, and then press the "Go" button. An image will then appear which shows you the Kèthîran sky as seen at that particular location and time.

The latitude and longitude of points in Venârivè can be determined using the Venârivè map, and/or from the Ports and Markets of Venârivè table in Appendix XV.

Further instructions and tips on using the form are provided below.
Latitude:
Longitude:
Time:
  • Latitude: This is used enter northern or southern latitude of the point in question on Kèthîra. Enter an integer number 1 and 90, which gives the degrees of latitude, then after a single blank space enter the number of 'minutes', a non-negative integer between 0 and 60. Then finally enter another blank space and specify N or S (for North or South). Note that it is possible, to use negative numbers, but it really only complicates matters.
  • Longitude: This is used to specify the longitude (meridian) of the point in question on Kèthîra. Enter an integer number between 1 and 180, which gives the degrees, then after a single blank space enter the number of 'minutes', which should be a non-negative integer between 0 and 60. Then enter another blank and specify E or W (for East or West). Note that you can, if you wish, use negative degrees longitude, so that "-180 0 E" is equivalent to "180 0 W", but it really only complicates matters.
  • Time: This is used to specify the date and time of the year when the "night sky" is being viewed. This may actually be daytime as well; the effect of the sun is ignored. Enter the month (1 to 12) followed by a dash followed by the day of the month followed by a blank (e.g. 6-5 ). Then enter the hour of the day (in 0-24 notation) followed by colon and the number of minutes. For example "6-5 15:15" would be the 5th day of the 6th month at 3:15pm.
Converting Decimal 'Minutes' The Venârivè Ports and Markets Table provides Latitude and Longitude 'minutes' in decimal form. These can be converted to base-60 as follows:
    .1 - 6 .2 - 12 .3 - 18 .4 - 24 .5 - 30 .6 - 36 .7 - 42 .8 - 48 .9 - 54
Note regarding months The first month of each year is Núzyael (Hârnic/Járind), Nústjel (Ivínian), Núzil (Shôrka/Tríerzi), Nútoi (Àzeryáni/Karéjian), and Múfat (Dálken/Mafáni) respectively.
