HarnCon V - The Full Moot

Almost everyone who attended HarnCon V is in this photo. Unfortunately a few people were only able to come for short bursts, or had to leave early. Still, what a sterling bunch...

More a chapter than a faction

Oxford faction? Sounds a bit political. What about a chapter? Or a clan even, to give it a Chelembian flavour?

Anyhow, yes, Pete, I did see the winter con proposal and it's a great idea, though I don't think I'll be able to attend. Something closer to home, on the other hand, would be much more accessible.

Dan.

Oxford...

I think it's the Oxford Chantry

To paraphrase Vampire

To paraphrase Vampire Weekend,
I prefer Oxford comma, and to prove it there is one. Not that an Oxford comma is a collective noun...but it is the only Oxford connection I can think of. Oxford bags I gues...

Morris Oxford

Morris Oxford?

I can see you all now in your whites and waistcoats, bells on your legs and sticks in your hands.

Good idea Neil

Hi Neil,

I'd be very keen on a weekend mini-meet later this year or early next, preferably the former. I'd love to come and see the northeast (and of course do some Kelesting).

Dan Och.

When Neil mentions our

When Neil mentions our 'oxford group' as a major faction of UK harniacs it put things into perspective! It is just four blokes who struggle to get together once a month!

Dan, Have you seen the winter con option on harnforum put forward by Beate? Beats our Gloucestire jaunt I would think?

The Oxford Faction

Peter

Of the four British representatives at IviniaCon:
Alun does not have a gaming group.
Andy's group play online, and not Harn
My group last played in April, (or possibly March, well at least it was this year sometime)
Rod was the only 'regular player' at the Con! Apart from the swedes, and the Germans, and the Norwegians.

So, you are a major faction (all by yourself possibly!)

Neil

ps Norway sounds good - how do I persuade my wife?

Does anyone know when the next Harncon will be in the UK?

HarnCons

This year's HarnCon is in Vancouver (in just a few days even :) ) while next year's is being pushed back 6 months to January 2010; the venue being Wellington New Zealand in order to hopefully attract some our southern friends to the event....

After that, who knows? There's nothing to stop "IviniaCon" from hopping over the waters to invade the British Isles. Jorvik sounds like a good venue :)

UK Con?

After the success of this year’s IviniaCon (a great time was had by all) Mikael (Hegart) and Anders (Bersten) are looking at organising one at “about the same time” next year.

Personally, I’m not up for organising a HârnCon for a year or two (if at all), though I’m not sure what the other UK fans think. I suspect that 2009 will see IviniaCon 3 and nothing else and 2010 will see HârnCon VII in New Zealand (as Ken says). New Zealand would be a huge expense for me and I think that it’s very unlikely that I’ll be able to go :(

Summer 2010 may see another IviniaCon (there are a lot of Swedish/Norwegian/Finnish fans out there). Although at the end of Con meal, Germany, France and the UK were all being discussed as alternative venues.

Based on this, it looks like 2010 would be the earliest likely date for a UK HârnCon. Active UK fans are few & scattered. There is the Oxford group and there are a lot of foreign ex-pats in London. I’ll be seeing fellow IviniaCon attendees Alun Rees & Andy Gibson sometime in October. If there is a demand for a one-day mini-meet later this year or early next, I’ll see what we could do to find a venue.

Of course, there’s always Norway in the winter!
