Moving material to new computer

Allan's picture

Hi,
I have some earlier releases, on a old computer, and I just tried using a memory stick to move them across to a new computer. The file looks ok as far as size etc, but Acrobat comes up with an error message, saying it must be damaged and can't open them.
Any idea's.
Thanks
Allan

ok... my first questions would be: (1) do the files still open on the old computer? and (2) is the same version of acrobat/reader installed on both computers? :)

Yes they still open on the old computer, and no, different versions of acrobat. Newer on the new machine. I thought it might be the memory stick, as its also old, I shall have to try an open them from the stick and see if that works. I left it at home, so later today.
Thanks

Well, it really looks to me as if there is something wrong with how you are moving the files rather than with the files themselves.

Are the two computers in question networked? Can you move the files that way?

If you can, copying the good files to a non-volatile medium (CD?) might be a good idea?

I think I fixed the problem, dodgy memory stick. Thanks for the help. I now have all the material across on the lap top, and starting a new Chelemby campaign now. I best get designing.
